Every people has its own distinctive characteristics, style of clothing, manners, and character. Cossack clothing is expressive and colorful, like their character. Neighboring peoples—Tatars, Turks, Cherches, and Chechens—also influenced their clothing. And, of course, Slavs—Russians, Belarusians, and Ukrainians—were also influential. A Cossack couple, for example, can be compared to a Russian one, only the Russian version is more modest. It's also worth noting that Cossack women emphasized their waists more. Young girls loved to stand out and show off. They even powdered themselves before appearing in public.
The Cossack couple became popular in later times. One such outfit, for example, was described in Sholokhov's novel "Quiet Flows the Don." It consists of two parts: a jacket and a skirt. Hence the name: a "couple" of pieces. Before this, women's costumes were more varied. Girls weren't even shy about wearing bloomers, which we're used to seeing only on men, under their skirts. For example, in the novel "Quiet Flows the Don," "late" Cossack women ridiculed a Tatar woman who, in their opinion, wore her husband's bloomers.
Couples for a dance troupe.
Modesty of form and lavishness of adornment—that's what distinguished a Cossack couple. Ordinary girls sewed costumes from inexpensive fabrics and lavishly decorated them with rich patterns. Girls from wealthy families wore costumes made of expensive fabrics and equally expensive threads and embellishments.
The Cossack couple costume from the "Kadril" company consists of a skirt and jacket. Both elements are richly patterned. Such costumes can captivate the audience and enhance a complex and captivating folk dance. It's worth noting that the choreography for folk dances can be quite complex. Therefore, the costumes are comfortable and do not restrict movement.
Fabrics that would make one too hot are also not used for the costumes.
The jacket and skirt are decorated with straight braid inserts and colored fabric inserts. Cotton fabric, gabardine, suiting fabric, and brocade are used in the production. Care for the Cossack couple suit should be taken with care due to the brocade, an expensive, patterned fabric. Dry cleaning is recommended. If dry cleaning is not possible, wash it at a low temperature without spinning. After washing, hang the suit over your shoulders and allow it to dry completely. Do not use a heating device to dry it. If the fabric is properly dried, it will not require ironing. If ironing is necessary, avoid ironing the brocade. Iron the suit through a thin layer of damp cloth.
The Cossack couple is a stunning suit that can be purchased from anywhere in Russia and the CIS on the Kadril website. You can buy a Cossack couple from sizes 40 to 58 wholesale or retail.
