What does a costume consist of?
A Belarusian women's costume consists of a blouse, vest, skirt, headdress, and apron.
A headdress is an important and necessary part of clothing for all Slavic women. Hair was required to be covered, especially for married women. The opposite was considered simply indecent. Young girls wore wreaths, and married women wore a bonnet or namitka. This costume features a bonnet decorated with patterned braid.
The blouse is traditionally white. The sleeves and voluminous collar are embellished with embroidery.
The vest is worn over the white blouse. It is made of thick, brightly colored, elegant fabric. It is decorated with two types of braid: a straight, patterned braid and a colored vyun braid. Colored fabric inserts are also used for decoration.
The skirt is made of the same fabric as the vest. The hem is trimmed with braid.
The apron has always been richly embroidered. The fabric color matches the blouse. The apron is fastened with ties that tie around the girl's waist.

A Belarusian women's costume is made from both simple and more formal fabrics. In this case, gabardine, suiting fabric, and cotton can be used.
The simplest and most commonly used fabric is cotton. It is hypoallergenic and can be worn against the naked body without causing irritation. Allergies to cotton are particularly rare. It is also highly breathable and does not restrict movement.
Gabardine and suiting fabric are used for denser garments. They are often used for stage and stage clothing. These fabrics should be washed and ironed using delicate cycles. This will ensure their longevity.
