Features of Gypsy Costume Sewing
Historically, Gypsy clothing has a particularly vibrant character. This is achieved through the use of contrasting fabric colors, as well as the presence of sparkling accessories and embellishments.
This Gypsy costume is crafted in accordance with the basic principles of this style of dress. The cut features a floor-length skirt, the hem of which is trimmed with a wide, quarter-length frill. The skirt itself is made of several wedges, creating its incredible width. This cut allows for spectacular dance moves when the performer joins the two edges of the skirt above her head. The skirt's waistband is a wide ribbon, decorated at the bottom with coin-shaped embellishments, typical of gypsy dress. During special movements, this embellishment produces a melodic ringing sound, essential to a true gypsy dance.
The women's gypsy costume is complemented by a wrap-over blouse adorned with wave-like frills. The elbow-length sleeves are also decorated with double-layered ruffles.
The costume is complemented by a gypsy diklo—a triangular headdress. To properly wear the diklo, first twist its ends and then tie it at the back of the head. The model shown is festive, and is therefore adorned with glittering embellishments along the edge.
